Shahid Malik is a British Labour Party politician who became an MP for Dewsbury in 2005. In 2007 he was appointed Minister for International Development, making him Britain’s first Muslim Minister. In June 2009 Shahid was given his fourth Ministerial role as a Minister at the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Shahid served as the first ever Great British Commissioner to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. He also served as Commissioner for Racial Equality in Great Britain, was Vice-Chair of UNESCO UK and national Chair of the Urban Forum fighting poverty. Professionally, he was Chief Executive of a major regeneration agency with a £100m plus programme and advised Government on community cohesion and neighbourhood renewal.
