Bios

A third sector Director who started work at the Wapping Women’s Centre in 1997 Sufia Alam has worked with Bangladeshi women and families by designing projects giving them valuable skills for employment and education. Sufia set up one of the first Community Gardens to bring people on a housing estate together.

In 2012 Sufia was appointed as one of a 14 commissioners to serve on the Tower hamlets Fairness commission. She now manages the Maryam centre, which is a new addition to the East London Mosque and the London Muslim centre.
